Plagiarism Screening Policy

JoElangEdu is committed to publishing original scholarly work and maintains a strict policy against plagiarism in all its forms. To ensure academic integrity, the journal implements systematic plagiarism screening procedures as outlined below.

  1. SCREENING TOOLS AND METHODS

All submitted manuscripts are screened using Turnitin plagiarism detection software. When necessary, additional tools such as iThenticate or Grammarly may be used for verification. Turnitin’s AI writing detection feature is also employed to identify content generated by artificial intelligence tools, including ChatGPT, Gemini, and similar platforms.

  1. SCREENING PROCESS

Initial Submission: Every manuscript is screened upon receipt.
Pre-Review Stage: A second screening is conducted before the manuscript is sent to reviewers.
Pre-Publication Check: A final screening is performed before typesetting and publication to ensure ongoing compliance with originality standards.

  1. ACCEPTABLE SIMILARITY INDEX
  • A similarity index up to 15% is generally acceptable, provided matches consist of properly cited common phrases, standard terminology, or methodological descriptions.
  • A similarity index between 15% and 25% triggers editorial review; authors may be asked to revise and resubmit.
  • A similarity index exceeding 25% results in rejection or a mandatory major revision. Authors must submit a corrected version with clear explanations of changes made.
  1. TYPES OF PLAGIARISM NOT TOLERATED

JoElangEdu does not tolerate any form of plagiarism, including:

  • Verbatim copying without quotation marks and citation.
  • Paraphrasing substantial ideas without proper acknowledgment.
  • Recycling one’s own previously published work without citation (self-plagiarism).
  • Data fabrication or falsification.
  • Presenting AI-generated text as human-authored without explicit disclosure.
  1. ACTIONS IN CASE OF PLAGIARISM DETECTION

Minor similarity (below 25%) with appropriate citation: The manuscript proceeds to review; authors may be notified to improve citation practices.
Substantial similarity (25%–40%): The manuscript is returned for revision; authors must explain and correct matched content.
Severe similarity (above 40%) or concealed AI use: Immediate rejection; offending authors may be barred from submitting for 1–2 years.
Post-publication discovery: The article may be retracted, and a public notice will be published on the journal’s website.

  1. AUTHOR DECLARATION

Upon submission, authors must confirm that:

  • The manuscript is original.
  • All sources are properly cited.
  • Any use of AI tools has been disclosed.
  • The manuscript is not currently under review elsewhere.
  1. REVIEWER VIGILANCE

Reviewers are encouraged to alert the editorial team if they suspect:

  • Uncited textual overlap with published works.
  • Suspiciously high language fluency inconsistent with the author’s known ability (potential undisclosed AI use).
  • Duplication of the author’s own prior publications without cross-reference.
  1. APPEALS PROCESS

Authors may appeal a plagiarism-related decision by providing:

  • A point-by-point explanation of matched text.
  • A revised manuscript with highlighted changes.
  • Permission letters if copyrighted material has been reproduced.
  1. PREVENTIVE MEASURES

JoElangEdu encourages authors to:

  • Use reference management software such as Zotero, Mendeley, or EndNote.
  • Paraphrase effectively and cite all non-original content.
  • Disclose AI assistance transparently in the Acknowledgments section.
  • Check their work with plagiarism detection tools prior to submission.
